Student Union Policy

 

1- Policy Purpose

This policy shows how AASTMT supports students through allowing them to form different and diverse student unions.

2- Policy Statement

Student unions are formed under the supervision of the Deanship of Student Affairs. By conducting fair elections between students in different colleges.

These student unions allow students to improve communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills by organizing and carrying out AASTMTs’ activities and service projects.

It represents the voice of the students and periodically attends meetings with senior administration to deliver student ideas, interest and concerns to develop the student community at the University. Also, AASTMTT President on a regular basis conducts formal meetings with Students unions to hear their recommendations.

4- Policy Description

AASTMT has set the General rules and conditions for candidacy for college student council elections which are published on the AASTMT website. Students who wish to nominate themselves for the elections are welcomed from the Deanship. Deanship reviews the applicants and then the electronic elections and voting start. After the ending of the voting, the Deanship takes the highest voted nominee becomes the Student Union President and the second highest votes becomes the Vice President and the rest of nominees become members.

Student unions in ASSTMT can prepare their events and they can participate in different events within the Academy.

5- Student Union Objectives:

-Contribute to the development of a well-rounded student personality and foster positive interaction between the students, faculty members, employees, and the university administration.

-Support and advance the academic process through presenting workshops, lectures and other tools.

-Coordinate with different elected student unions  in other Egyptian universities.

-Focus on student issues, follow up on them, and work towards resolving their problems in collaboration with AASTMT administration.

-Support and enhance cultural, scientific, social, athletic, and student activities, improving their effectiveness and impact.

-Foster a democratic atmosphere for effective dialogue between students and respect for diverse opinions.

-Engage constructively with the local community and social activities including both official and unofficial institutions.

The student union, the beating heart of AASTMT campus life, serves as a hub of activity, support, and community for students. AASTMT student unions are involved in advocating for important issues, such as diversity and inclusion, sustainability, community engagement, physical and mental health awareness. The next section shows student unions elections, roles and responsibilities.

Port-Saeed Student Union

Students' union is running totally by students; and supported by student’s affairs. The purpose of this union is to represent students both within the institution and externally. Students' unions are also responsible for providing a variety of services to students. Students can get involved in the union by elections which running every academic year.

AASTMT President and different Student Unions meeting

To ensure the involvement of the student unions in making and taking decisions in AASTMT, President met different students’ unions from different campuses and colleges, as AASTMT believes that students unions are important link to hear the voice of students and AASTMT students’ unions members are an important collaborator in AASTMT decision making process. His Excellency Professor Dr., President of the Academy, held a meeting with the students of the student union councils of all colleges in the presence of Professor Dr. Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, and Head of the Student Investigations Department in Abu-Kir.

Debate between candidates for student unions in some colleges

To develop the spirit of positive participation, involvement and the spirit of electoral awareness among students, the Deanship of Student Affairs organized debates between elected members. A debate for a college student union can refer to an election event where candidates discuss their platforms or to broader on-campus controversies involving the union. Students have freedom in asking and discussing the candidates in any topics.

AASTMT President- AASTMT South Valley branch student unions and student meeting “Ask me Team Meeting”

AASTMT do not neglect the voice of its’ students, AASTMT President met the "Ask Me Team" from the AASTMT South Valley branch. During the meeting AASTMT president listened to student opinions suggestions and participatory decisions. The meeting was held to foster engagement and continuous dialogue with students and to show AASTMT's commitment to the educational process. The President praised the efforts of the "Ask Me Team" in assisting new students and their parents with the admissions process. The President listened to the students' opinions and suggestions.

As kind of support and student union engagement, Student unions always supporting AASTMT students in different sectors, as they conduct orientation sessions for the new students to let them know more information they need to be ready for their journey in AASTMT and to ensure their involvement and engagement in AASTMT Campus without any fear

A "PHOTO DAY" celebration was held for students from the Faculties of Administration, Languages, and Media. It was organized by the Department of Cultural and Social Activity and the Students' Union.

Journal club in faculty of pharmacy

Student families are an organization emanating from the Families Committee of the College Students Union. Its purpose is to develop a spirit of cooperation between students, as well as between them and their professors, and to expand the base of student social, cultural, artistic and sports activities that help students hone their talents, solve their problems, develop their abilities and skills, and invest their free time.

As kind of community engagement, AASTMT College of Medicine students participate in the medical convoy supports the Dabaa Hospital  also, some of pharmaceutical companies provide the convoy with some medicines.

Opening for the registration of the cultural activities

The Department of Cultural and Social Activity at the Deanship of Student Affairs officially announced the opening of registration. This timeline reflects the standard AASTMT practice of opening activity registrations early in the semester to ensure the engagement of students in extracurricular life.

Career Stone Event

The Department of Cultural and Social Activity in Abu Qir, in cooperation with the Horizon family, organized a session on the Career Stone Event, presented by Dr. Pharmacist Moaz Arif, with the end of the Abuse in Egypt to enhance the experience of the students about the labor market and ensure engagement and involvement of the students in extracurricular activities.

Training camp for football club teams’ summer 2024

As AASTMT always raise its community involvement and engagement, Ghazel Al Mahalla Football Team Club conducted it’s training in the training camp in the main branch of the Academy in Abu Qir for the which includes green playgrounds, gym and swimming.

AASTMT President supports Sport Activities in AASTMT

As AASTMT enhance its teaching freedom and supporting its’ students in different sectors, AASTMT supports Athlete student Mohamed Kisho, Egyptian National Wresting Team Player. AASTMT President met the champion and rewarded him.

CCIT participate in the ICPC

College of Computing and Information Technology participates and excels in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). Multiple students from CCIT-Cairo have achieved top rankings in the regional contests and advanced to the prestigious ICPC World Finals.

Department of cultural and social activity organized a celebration for the faculties of administration language and information with the participation of Student Union

The Department of Cultural and Social Activity organized a celebration for the faculties of Administration, Language, and Information. The event was a collaboration between the Department of Cultural and Social Activity and the Student Union. Celebrations at academic institutions promote social ties, cultural understanding, and a spirit of cooperation among students. A Student Union's role is to organize such social events, fostering a sense of community for students. The faculties of Administration, Language, and Information were the focus of the event. Student unions represent the needs of the student body and collaborate with various academic and administrative departments to ensure student well-being and engagement.

AASTMT launched World Championship for the modern pentathlon for juniors

To enhance its Civic Engagement, AASTMT launched World Championship for the modern pentathlon for juniors in Abi-Qir. It featured 170 athletes from 42 countries. The championship underscored Egypt's capability to host international sports events and AASTMT's support for sports.
