Goal 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
Deliver projects to record and preserve intangible cultural heritage such as local folklore, traditions, language, and knowledge. This can include the heritage of displaced communities.
In a significant initiative aligned with SDG 11, focused on recording and preserving cultural heritage, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) Heliopolis Campus, through its Deanery of Student Affairs, successfully hosted 'Arab Cultural Heritage Day' on February 27, 2024. This event, inaugurated by H.E. Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, AASTMT President, featured a range of diverse cultural activities specifically designed to record and preserve intangible cultural heritage, including local folklore, traditions, and knowledge. The participation of faculty, staff, and a multinational student body fostered a vibrant environment for the active celebration, understanding, and intergenerational transfer of Arab heritage, thereby contributing directly to its ongoing preservation.

Directly contributing to SDG 11.2.6, focused on recording and preserving cultural heritage, AASTMT's College of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage actively delivers projects vital for this objective. As the pioneering institution in Upper Egypt offering a degree in this field, the College equips students with essential practical experience. Currently, students are engaged in a professional training program at the historically significant Qubbet el-Hawa archaeological site in Aswan. Working in collaboration with a joint Egyptian English-Australian mission, these students are directly involved in recording, studying, and preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Their work encompasses the meticulous documentation of archaeological findings and the understanding of ancient traditions and knowledge embedded within the site, thereby ensuring the long-term preservation and understanding of this invaluable cultural asset
