Description

This course aims at offering students the basic skills for formulating and manufacturing modified-release preparations including oral, parenteral, cavity-inserted and trans-dermal device. The student will be provided with the knowledge and skills regarding the properties and utility of the different components of these dosage forms together with the different drug release mechanisms. Further, this course will enable the student to apply the acquired knowledge in overcoming simple formulation problems related to drug properties and/or formulation stability. In addition, the course involves a continued study of pharmaceutical dosage forms with emphasis on novel and targeted nanocarrier based drug delivery systems, and discussions focusing on transforming proteins, genes, and other biotechnology driven compounds into therapeutic products and new drug therapies. Furthermore, formulation aspects and application of polymers and excipients to solve problems/issues concerning the optimization of absorption, selective transport, and targeting are included.
