Objectives

  • This course provides students with a good knowledge of the history of weaving, weaving techniques and tools, equipment, and materials. The course provides a solid foundation for the types of fibers which used in the archaeological textile and carpets, while providing the students with various skills of the manufacture of textile products with basic textile structure (plain weaves and derivatives, twill weaves and derivatives and atlas technique), and various techniques of carpets. The course provides students with different techniques of dyes and how to get them from natural resources and the process of dyeing the fibers used in the manufacture of archaeological textiles or carpets. The course further provides students with a solid foundation about the methods of examination and analysis used to show the condition of the archaeological fabric before conducting restoration and conservation. In addition to identifying the various deterioration factors that cause deterioration and damage of the tissue. The course provides the students with the various restoration and conservation methods used in the treatment of the textile and carpets, from the various stages of cleaning to the museum display or archaeological storage.
